Wayfinder supports communities in Western Canada through Indigenous Knowledge research and documentation in support of community-led decision-making and meaningful consultation.

Jonathan Taggart, PhD

I am a settler of English and Scottish descent, born and raised in coastal British Columbia, where the water and woods shape my identity. As a father of two outdoor-loving boys, I seek to nurture connections with the coast, its cultures, and ecosystems.

I earned my PhD in Resources, Environment, and Sustainability from the University of British Columbia, focusing on Indigenous Knowledge systems within Traditional Use Studies and land use planning. This work honors the deep, multifaceted relationships that communities have with the territories they’ve stewarded for generations.

With over 10 years of experience collaborating with Indigenous-owned and oriented consultancies, I draw on my time working on tugboats in the Salish Sea and producing documentaries for Indigenous communities and national media to inform my approach. I am grateful for the knowledge shared with me and consider it an honor to support sustainable resource management and cultural revitalization efforts.
